Written on July 17, 2011…
Well, this is it…it’s time. I have almost forgotten that I used to regularly blog; in fact, last year I was actually ‘blog-spotted’ in Iqaluit! Ah, where has my writing gone? I would like to blame it on the fact that, for the longest time, I couldn’t format the pictures taken from my new camera (too many pixels to load), but that would be a flimsy excuse. I could also blame it on the fact that I started another blog which is all dog related, but that would be just as bad. I’ll just have to say that other things – not even good things necessarily – have taken over. I require a little bit more writing discipline m’thinks!
If you have been following along, you would know that Qikiqtarjuaq is where I spent the 2010/2011 academic year. One thing I haven’t mentioned in my previous posts, though, was how much of a problem housing was; I won’t get into the details, but the long and the short of it is that when I return to the north next year it will be to Kugluktuk, not Qik. Hmm, three communities in three years? I’m so sick of moving around!
My memories of Qikiqtarjuaq will be good – I had so many good adventures! Thanks to Clint, my Arctic Cat got a lot more cruising time than it got last year, and polar bears were always just a few miles away. Throw in snowshoe treks and exploding coconuts and you have yourself a strange year!
Right now, I’ll just finish up this entry with a few photos from this past year…I’ll try something more regular this summer. Unfortunately, for some reason I can’t load more than these three on this first entry.
